Religious Injunction Against Indulgence in Ragging

Noted Islamic Organisation Darul Uloom Deoband (Uttar Pradesh) expressed strong reservation against ragging from the point of view of Islam. According to the organisation, people indulging in ragging" are spoiling their Aakhirah (life after death) and this world". It may be noted that, Vishwa Jagriti Mission, a Hindu organisation had earlier filed a PIL against ragging in Supreme Court and got ragging banned.

Anant Asthana, CURE Chapter, Aligarh Muslim University requested scholars at Dar-ul-uloom Deoband to explain the stand of Islam with respect to ragging. They expressed the following views about ragging, together with a formal URDU document forbidding anyone from indulging in ragging:

"Ragging which has spread in universities and colleges is no doubt oppression and a heinous crime. Those, indulging in the sin are spoiling their Aakhirah (life after death) and this world. It is necessary to uproot this shameless act from all our educational places."

We support the stance of organizations like Dar-ul-uloom Deoband against ragging and invite other groups to come up with similar stances
