Don't Rag, Interact!!!

Talk about ragging with someone and the first argument put forth is that it helps the seniors and freshers to interact. Of course, it does! It is also true that in almost all cases, there are some questions that are never answered:

  • Why does the fresher need to be humiliated for this interaction to take place?

  • Are we do uncivilised that we have not found a better way of interaction with the freshers in so many years?

  • Why is this interaction one-sided? i.e. why doesn't the senior interact with the fresher at the same level as the fresher?

  • Why should there be dress codes? Why should a fresher bow to seniors? Is this how our culture teaches us to interact?

We are convinced that all reasons propounded for ragging are mere hogwash. Introspect deeply and you will find that none of the arguments that are put forth in favour of ragging actually hold ground. In this section, we will collect ideas and articles from people towards healthier and more positive means of interaction. Examples include:

  • Interaction through joint projects and events. Sporting activities can play a very good role in this.

  • Forming of student mentor bodies in colleges wherein a group of respected seniors who can motivate and inspire the freshers are there to guide and help them navigate the turbulent times from school to college and hostel life.

We will be detailing these and more possible solutions very soon. For more ideas on these lines, please check out our Research & Analysis section.
